Greenalia obtains the construction permit for its new 40.5 MW wind farm, campelo, in the northwest of Spain

• The facility has obtained all the necessary permits from the autonomous community authorities to start the construction work that will be carried out throughout 2022, with an estimated execution time of 11 months

Greenalia has obtained the administrative construction authorization and the public utility declaration (DUP) for Campelo Wind Farm, planned between the towns of Coristanco and Santa Comba (A Coruña, Galicia). This project contemplates around 40 million euros investment, as reflected in the Administrative Resolution published by Galicia’s Official Gazette (DOG). The Wind Farm, which already has the corresponding Environmental Impact Statement (EIA), includes 9 wind turbines, with a 4.5 MW unit power, a 112 meters hub height and a 136 meters rotor diameter.

Greenalia has introduced different modifications to the project during the permitting process to minimize potential impacts and respond to proposals, allegations and conclusions from the respective sectoral reports.Of these changes made, we can highlight the reduction in the number of wind turbines, from 11 to 9.

Also worth highlighting is all the fieldwork carried out to identify the possible presence of two protected species, specifically Euphorbia uliginosa and Centaurea ultreiae. No specimens of these two species were located in the area of implantation of the park after the conducted studies. Regardless of this, Greenalia, aiming to promote the knowledge and repopulation of Centaurea ultreiae, has been leading an ambitious project, with the USC and the Forestry Research Center of  Lourizán, for the recovery of this plant in Coristanco area.

Campelo Wind Farm will be located outside natural spaces, the areas collected under the name of Biosphere Reserve or the Catalog of Senlleiras Trees, as is the case with priority areas of protection for birds.

With regard to cultural heritage, specific precautions have been established for the protection of existing assets of interest, having carried out an intensive archaeological survey in such a way as to ensure the conservation and non-affectation of all these elements, having the agreement of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage.
