Greenalia joins the IX international week of corporate volunteering (give; gain2019) providing support to the Galician food bank Rias Altas.

Employees from Greenalia participated in the volunteering activity organised on the 10th and 11th of May in the framework of the IX International Week of Corporate Volunteering (Give&Gain 2019) led by Foretica in Spain.

This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare, the High Commission for the Fight against Childhood Poverty and the regional governments of Madrid, Balearic Islands, Galicia and Tenerife. This year’s edition has brought together more than 60 companies from different sectors working together with 120 NGO, involving more than 2.700 volunteers and benefiting 14,600 people.

The focus this year was to generate positive impact by improving the life conditions of the most vulnerable promoting their social and proffesional inclusion. Greenalia chose to collaborate with the Galician Food Bank Rias Altas for their mission to satisfy one of the most basic human necessities, food, among the most disadvantaged and marginalised sectors of A Coruña.

The volunteers were able to collect and pack 500kg of food with their work in a Gadis supermarket in A Coruña. Furthermore, Greenalia doubled this quantity with a donation of 500kg of additional food items that were highly recommended by the Bank as the most needed.

The Food Bank Rias Altas, is the only Food Bank recognised by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks in the province of A Coruña, and includes four distribution warehouses in A Coruña, Ferrol and Santiago. The Food Bank is entirely comprised of volunteer workers that contribute with their time in solidarity with the most needed. In 2017, the Bank reached more than 15.500 beneficiaries with the help of 3.000 volunteers that distributed 2.200.000 kg of food.
