LEADING THE BIOFUELS PRODUCTION (PELLETS AND DRY WOODCHIPS)

Greenalia Industry specialises in biofuel production (Pellets and Dry Woodchips), which are partially later consumed in the facilities managed under energy services contracts (heating and cooling). The raw material supplying for the biofuel manufacturing takes placce by through Greenalia Forest, which provides guarantee of supply and cost stability of raw materials used for manufacturing, due to its leadership in the forestry sector,

PELLETS MANUFACTURING
Greenalia Group of companies holds significant share holds in the company Biomasa Forestal S.L., owner of the largest pellet plant in Spain with a production capacity of 70,000 tonnes / year. The mill is located in As Pontes, A Coruña province, one of the main forest production areas of Spain, less than 50 km away from the port of Ferrol, featuring as the most competitive plant in the country. Pellets are supplied to all over Spain as well as Europe; mainly for household and tertiary sector uses.
DRY WOODCHIPS MANUFACTURING
The dry woodchips production mill for thermal power is located in Sigüeiro, A Coruña province. The mill has a turnover capacity of 45,000 tonnes / year of woodchips/25% humidity, being one of the largest in Spain. In the plant, the green woodchips is subject to screening, sieving and drying processes, up to achieving optimal qualities for biofuel use. This plant supplies woodchips to all northwestern Spain, mainly for industrial and tertiary sectors.
To execute this project Wood Chips Galicia was funded by JESSICA-F.I.D.A.E Fund, fund co-financed by the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) and the IDAE (Institute for the energy Saving and Diversification).

ENERBIOLOG

Project title: ENERBIOLOG - Intelligent manufacturing and innovative logistics of forest biomass for energy use.

Consortium members: Greenalia Forest S.L., Greenalia Woodchips S.L.U., Indutec Ingenieros S.L.U. and Biomasa Forestal S.L.

Partner Tech Institution: Fundación Instituto Tecnológico de Galicia (ITG)

Project goal: the general project´s goal is to optimize the processes along the value chain of forest biomass used for energetic purposes to obtain quality and easy to use solid biofuels at the lowest economic and energetic costs through the development and validation of innovative logistics formats as well as the application of real-time monitoring techniques in the Smart Manufacturing workframe.

ENERBIOLOG has been launched in February 2016 and will end in November 2018.

This project has been "Subsidized by the Galician Innovation Agency (GAIN)" and supported by the Economy, Employment and Industry regional administration, through the “Conecta Pyme Program” to promote cooperation between SMEs and other agents of the Regional Innovation System. 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the operational program Feder Galicia 2014-2020 (OT 1. "Promote technological development, innovation and quality research").

Main advances 2016: at November 2016, the unconventional densification and packaging systems compatible with the resources and technical means available in the geographical scope of action were evaluated. The actions to be carried out to optimize the drying process and integrate the packaging process into the production plants have also been defined in a preliminary way. Finally, the requirements for the development of the intelligent management system that will optimize energy consumption in the processes of the industrial plants producing forest biofuels have been specified.

Main advances 2017: at November 2017, the automation of the drying operation has been greatly advanced, with the installation of the necessary equipment to measure the moisture of the process and be able to consult it in real time on the management platform. Pellets and woodchips packaging tests have also been carried out and unsatisfactory results have been obtained. The partners involved are studying alternative solutions. Finally, the intelligent energy management tool has been developed that captures information in real time of the energy parameters of the production process.
